Ferriday splits pair

Ferriday High split a pair of games at New Living Word in Ruston, as the Lady Trojans held on for a 54-48 win, while the Trojan boys fell 68-49.

In the girls contest, Ferriday led 9-6 after one period of play, but New Living Word came back to tie the game at half-time at 20-20.

The Lady Trojans trailed by four after three periods, but outscored the Ruston team 20-10 in the final stanza.

Jada Griggs led Ferriday with 24 points, while Sha'Kerria Kelly added 17.

Griggs scored nine of her 24 points in the third quarter..

"The girls are finally learning how to play together," said Lady Trojan coach Lisa Abron. "'Sha' had to do almost everything last year, but she has help this year. We're just working hard to get better."

Ferriday's boys fell to New Living Word 68-49.

New Living Word, coached by former Ferriday High football coach Jerry Baldwin, led 35-19 at halftime.

Brandon Scott led the Trojans with 10 points.

Ferriday hosts Lake Providence Friday in a district contest.
