Monterey sweeps Avoyelles

Monterey's girls rebounded from their only district loss of the season to Grace Christian with a 41-31 win over Avoyelles Charter Friday in Monterey.

Monterey led 11-5 after one periodThe Lady Wolves were seeded No. 12 in Class B power rankings Monday. The top 16 host a first-round playoff game.

Despite a 14-3 record, Monterey's girls did not receive any votes in the Louisiana Sportswriters Association Class B/C poll. Harrisonburg, which Monterey has beaten three times, received three votes.

Jessica McNeil led Monterey with 11 points against Avoyelles Charter.

Monterey's boys, seeded No. 16, cruised past Avoyelles Charter, 56-32.

Dillon Smith paced the Wolves with 26 points, while Kade Passman added nine points.

"We played good defense and I was pleased with the effort," said Monterey coach Eric Richard.

Monterey plays at Oak Hill Friday.
