Bobby Jindal has announced that Thomas Enright will serve as new Executive Counsel following the resignation of Gary Graphia. Enright will begin serving as Executive Counsel on February 4. Enright is a native of Sicily Island. He attended LSU for two years before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. After serving in the Marine Corps from 1987-1991, he graduated in 1994 from LSU with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and LSU Law School in 1997. Jindal said "Thomas has served the administration and the state well in various positions over the past five years, and we look forward to his service as Executive Counsel." He aid Graphia "has been a valuable asset to our team and to our state, and we appreciate his service." Enright was appointed in November 2012 as the Deputy Executive Counsel to Jindal. From March 2010 to November 2012, he served as Executive Counsel of the Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (GOHSEP). From July 2008 until March 2010, he served as Deputy Secretary of the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs (LDVA). Enright is the son of Leslie Enright of Sicily Island and Barbara Gilbert Haigh of Natchez. He is the grandson of longtime Louisiana legislator J.C. "Sonny" Gilbert. He is married to the former Virginia Jane Middleton, granddaughter of former LSU president Martin D. Woodin, native of Sicily Island. He joined the Louisiana Attorney General's Office in 1997 as an Assistant Attorney General and served from 1999 to 2008 in the Attorney General's Tobacco Settlement Enforcement Section enforcing the terms of the Master Settlement Agreement against the major tobacco manufacturers. In August 2005 he was designated as the primary attorney in charge of the Attorney General's Veterans Rights Section. Enright is a former active duty Marine Sergeant, serving in Desert Shield/Storm and also participating as an Aerial Gunner in Operation Eastern Exit – the evacuation of the American Embassy in Mogadishu, Somalia in January 1991. After receiving an Honorable Discharge from the Marine Corps in 1991, he joined the Louisiana National Guard and attended Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning, Georgia. Later, he transferred to the Transportation Corps of the U.S. Army Reserve in 1996. Since 9/11, he has deployed twice to the Middle East and Central Asia. He retired from the Army Reserve in July 2009 at the rank of Major. He received the General Douglas MacArthur Leadership Award.
