Trojans fall at Sterlington
by Joey Martin - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
It was not the kind of birthday present Ferriday High girls basketball coach Lisa Abron was expecting.

After defeating Sterlington 61-55 at home last month, the Lady Trojans fell to Sterlington 37-26 Friday in Sterlington.

"It was a bad night all the way around," Abron said. "We knew it would be low-scoring because we knew they would slow it down and not get into running game after our first contest. We couldn't get anything going. We made a lot of mistakes and had too many turnovers."

Sterlington led 14-8 at the end of the first period.

Sha'Keria Kelly led Ferriday with 15 points.

The Lady Trojans are currently ranked No. 37 in the Class 2A power rankings. The top 32 advance to the playoffs.

The Ferriday boys dropped a 69-33 contest to the Panthers.

Ferriday's boys are seeded No. 35 in the Class 2A power rankings.

With the victory, Sterlington improved to 21-6 on the campaign.

Ferriday plays at Homer Friday.

The Trojans host Lakeside Tuesday.

The Trojans host Jonesboro-Hodge on February 8 for Senior Night.

Ferriday hosts Homer on Fer. 11.

That game was originally scheduled for last month in Ferriday, but heavy rains in north Louisiana kept the Pelicans from making the trip to Ferriday.
