Vidalia downs Buckeye

Vidalia High's boys basketball team lost another player to an injury, but took care business in Buckeye as the Vikings defeated the Panthers 77-69.

"They are not real deep, so we were able to wear them down," said Vidalia coach Robert Sanders. "And we hit our free throws."

The Vikings made 20-of-23 from the free throw line.

Vidalia senior Terrell Virgis was injured after being pushed in the back while making a basket and landing on his back. No foul was called on the play.

Vidalia's boys are seeded No. 36 in Class 3A going into Tuesday's games according to kenramsey.com.

The top 32 teams advance to the playoffs.

Vidalia has a home game with Avoyelles Tuesday to close out the regular season.

The contest was tied 20-20 after one period of play and the Vikings trailed 36-34 at halftime.

Vidalia outscored Buckeye 25-11 in the third period and held on for the win.

Isiah Thompson led the Vikings with 19 points, while Deion Brown and Julius Wilson added 15 each.

Vidalia's girls fell to Buckeye 53-25.

The Lady Vikings trailed 12-2 at the end of the first quarter.

Shermel Bell and Tierra Bell paced the Lady Vikings with seven points each.

The Lady Vikings are ranked No. 43 in Class 2A.

Vidalia hosts Avoyelles Friday in its regular season finale. The game will also be Senior Night.
