What better way but through the sport that he loves? Harris is organizing the first Ferriday Youth Football Camp to be held at Ferriday High June 15-16. Registration fee is $35 for ages 5-18. The two-day camp will include a 7-on-7 tournament. Harris has brought in several former Trojans to assist with the camp. Among the staff of the first camp are former NFL receiver Kerwin Cook, current Carroll High assistant coach James Leonard, semi-pro quarterback Tyrennce Taylor, former Trojan Adrian Bailey and former Ferriday coach Robert Cade. "I have some former teachers and coaches and a few other guest speakers I am also talking to," said Harris, a 2008 graduate of Ferriday High "As a graduate of Ferriday High, I know the importance of capturing the hearts, minds, and souls of young men; as a result, this has driven me to create my first camp. It is time to take our young men back and help steer them in the right direction. This two-day camp will definitely be a good start." Harris said the purpose of the camp Is to create a platform for young men providing them with key fundamentals of football and provide them with life essentials to become successful adults. "This would be the first year that a program of this magnitude with this type of purpose has been held in this great city and I am hoping to receive contributions," Harris said. Harris said all monies raised will be used to cover the costs associated with running this camp such as: food, beverages, towels, balls, and etc. "The monies will also be used towards a scholarship to be awarded to three students who have maintained good grades and display good morals and values," Harris said. "This scholarship would give these young people an opportunity to go to college and achieve their dreams. It will aid them with the ever-growing costs associated with college." Campers are required to wear black shorts and cleats.
