Piatigorsky concert slated at library

Concordia Parish Library will host a concert duo featuring harpist Heidi Krutzen and cellist Ariel Barnes at the Concordia Bank lobby in Vidalia on Thursday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m.
The artists are sponsored through the Piatigorsky Foundation, which Evan Drachman established in 1990 in honor of his grandfather Gregor Piatigorsky, who believed in the healing and inspiration power of classical music. The Piatigorsky Foundation promotes cultural curiosity through educational and accessible live performances.
Last season, the foundation presented a tour of North Louisiana of eight concerts reaching more than 400 people in Shreveport, Monroe, Vidalia, and Ruston.
Heidi Krutzen is a leading musician in Canada, celebrated for her solo, chamber music, and orchestral performances and collaborations with composers and talent as a teacher. She is a member of the acclaimed Trio Verlaine and also tours and records with the Krutzen/McGhee Duo. She is a founding member of Vancouver's Turning Point Ensemble, principal harpist of the Vancouver Opera Orchestra, and former principal harpist of the CBC Radio Orchestra. A graduate of the Eastman School of Music, she now teaches at the University of British Columbia.
Internationally acclaimed cellist Ariel Barnes enjoys a diverse career as a soloist, chamber and orchestral musician. His performances have included evenings of unaccompanied Bach to contemporary solo cello recitals. He has collaborated with many great performers including the St. Lawrence String Quartet, Daniel Bolshoy, Ian Parker, and has enjoyed appearances at MusicFest Vancouver, the Ottawa Chamber Music Festival, Mendocino Music Festival. Barnes is currently on faculty at the Symphony Orchestra Academy of the Pacific (SOAP).
Concordia Parish Library has hosted Piatigorsky artists during previous concert series. This concert is scheduled to last approximately one hour.
This event is free and open to the public and is co-sponsored by Concordia Bank & Trust Co.
