Jerry Clark will take the oath of office Thursday as Concordia Parish's new Assessor.
Clark, age 61, has served as deputy assessor since June 1977 and chief deputy since 1997.
He will replace longtime assessor Monelle Moseley, who is retiring.
Moseley served 36 years in the office, defeating five candidates to win the position in 1976.
Judge Kathy Johnson will administer the oath of office to Clark at 10 a.m. Thursday in the courtroom at the courthouse in Vidalia.
"I'm looking forward to it," Clark said, who has been working in the office for the past 35 years.
"I want to thank God first, and thank the people of Concorida Parish for supporting me and putting me in office. I feel honored to serve them and I'll do the job to the best of my ability."
He also expressed his appreciation to "Mrs. Moseley for her help and support, including her endorsement of me in last year's election."
He said he "plans to continue doing what we've been doing in the office as well as making some upgrades."
