Police Jury Secretary-Treasurer Hazel Dickson announced Monday night she is retiring effective Sept. 1.

Dickson will have been employed by the Police Jury for 30 years by the time of her retirement.

She said she's unsure of what her future holds, but in the meantime plans "to raise my son and take care of my family."

Dickson said when she went to work for the Jury in 1983 that Morris Willson was president and Nelton Hodges was secretary.

"When I came to work on Sept. 1, 1983, it was an election year and six new jurors took office in January of 1984," she recalled. "In October 1984, Carey Cook came on the Jury in a special election to fill the unexpired term of Sammy Davis Jr. when he became mayor of Ferriday."
