Boating ban remains on LSJ, Concordia

Sheriff Kenneth Hedrick says a boating ban will continue indefinitely on Lake St. John and Lake Concordia.

Last week, local lakes were restricted to emergency use only.

The emergency notice was issued due to rising lake and river levels following heavy rains which caused flooding in some homes.

The boating ban has been lifted on Black River Lake, Cross Bayou, Cocodrie Bayou and Workinger Bayou, both Hedrick and Catahoula Parish Sheriff James Glen Kelly said.

Kelly said Black River Lake has dropped about eight inches.

Hedrick said boaters should be mindful of homes, camps and piers when traveling on the water.

"We'll keep the ban in place for now on Lake St. John and Lake Concordia and will let people know once it's lifted," he said. "Water is still close to the piers there."

The operators of non-emergency boats may receive a citation if observed on these waterways while flood conditions exist.
