Lady Wolves fall in playoffs

Monterey High's Lady Wolves fell to Bell City 36-27 Monday in Bell City in a Class B first round playoff contest.

Monterey's girls, who were rated No. 22 in the Class B power rankings, used strong defensive play to take an 18-15 lead at halftime. The Lady Wolves were allowing an average of 34 points a game.

But the Lady Wolves had trouble scoring points in the second half, as the Lady Bruins outscored Monterey 21-9.

"It was a four-point game with three minutes remaining and they hit a three," said Monterey girls coach Cary Shively. "We had to foul and they made their shots. But it was a great team effort

Bell City advanced to play Summerfield, which defeated Pitkin 48-42.

Reagan Tiffee led the Lady Wolves with 12 points, while Kristin Russell added 11.

Monterey finishes its season at 17-7.

The Lady Wolves finished 4-5 in district.

"We're losing four seniors (Kaley Baker, Reagan Tiffee, Kristen Russell and Jessica McNeil). and we are going to miss them," Shively said. "They have been a big part of our success for a long time. I'm looking forward to the next group stepping up."

In other Class B action, No. 1 Lacassine defeated Lafayette Christian 93-8.

Rapides, which won Monterey's district, defeated Weston 52-46.

Grace Christian, which finished second in District 4B, fell to Doyline, 46-32.

In Class A action, No. 5 Tensas Parish defeated Elton 79-49.

Tensas Parish hosts No. 12 East Iberville Thursday in St. Joseph

No. 23 Block fell to No. 10 St. Edmund 54-50.
